Microsoft and the European Union Reach Antitrust Accord

 

European Antitrust commission said last Wednesday that an agreement has been reached with Microsoft to conclude the antistrust battle that lasted more than 10 years.
A previous proposal by Microsoft was dismissed by the commision as it is was considered as insufficient.
In a press conference, competition commissioner Neelie Kroes said that he that the last proposal presented by Microsoft will be the answer.

"I think this is a trustful deal we are making. There can't be a misunderstanding because it is the final result of a long discussion between Steve Ballmer and me," she added.
Microsoft attacked competitors and took benefit of its market position to give Internet Explorer an unfair advantage over other alternatives.
The new proposal by Microsoft will give users the possibility to use other 12 web browsers by showing a "ballot screen" inside the Windows Operating system.
Open Source browsers vendors like Mozilla and Google supported the EU antitrust case against Microsoft, initially started by Opera Software ASA.
