Wikipedia Changes Look

The English version of Wikipedia, the biggest web encyclopedia with free content, changed look and feel today.

The new skin, called Vector, provides simplified navigation and enhanced functionalities. The tabs at the top of each page are now better defined and the search box is more prominent and positioned on the top right. Formatting pages is now easier, a cheat-sheet is even presented to help new editors. The new layout also provides an easy-to-use tool for the creation and editing of links.

The previous design was seen as out-dated by Wikipedia, "when it was first developed, the software running Wikipedia was considered reasonably user-friendly. By today's standards, it is not as streamlined nor user-friendly as other software. That's why we're making a series of important changes, beginning with the first release of new software in April, to make Wikipedia better".

Wikipedia published a prototype site (http://prototype.wikimedia.org/) to show changes that are still undergoing active testing and development.

Versions of Wikipedia in other languages will update at a later time.
