Wordpress 3.0 is Out: More Powerful and More Customizable

Version 3.0 of Wordpress has been released, the latest version dubbed "Thelonious" contains more than 1200 bug fixes and several updates and enhancements released by 280 contributors areound the world.

Wordpress is considered one of the most popular blogging application, released under GPL Open Source license, it allows anyone to install and setup it on their server in addition to use it as a hosted service on Wordpress.com, that became the 12th most visited website in the world with 12 Million active installations.

The biggest change in this version is the multi blog support, which allows a large number of users to host their blogs under a single installation, this means that only one piece of software and its database will provide administrators the ability to organize and edit blogs within a single interface.

Now Wordpress has also new several characterisitics which make it nearer to a full CMS and not only a blogging platform. Users are now able to create custom post types like events, podcasts and video posts. Taxonomies are now more customizable allowing fully hierarchical custom taxonomies.

The 3.0 version came up with more customization for themes and plugins. The Wordpress repository offers almost 10,000 plugins which can change the look and feel of your blog and how it works. For the new version users should upgrade the installed plugins on their blogs to be compatible with version 3.0.
